We don't track live outage status. For Cox's official word, go straight to Cox's official outage page →

Before digging further into why Cox stopped working, know what this page actually offers: not a status check, since we have no visibility into Cox's network and never claim otherwise, but a fast path to the one source that does, plus a short list of steps that tell your equipment apart from an area-wide problem. Use the official link above first. If that doesn't resolve it, the checklist below walks through the same steps a support agent would likely ask about anyway, in roughly the order that saves the most time.
The seven-step outage checklist
- Check the provider's official status page first. Every provider runs its own official support and outage channel — the link at the top of this page goes to the right starting point for it. Sign in if it asks; most check your address or account for known problems in your area. For Cox, that's Cox's official outage page.
- Power-cycle the modem and router properly. Unplug both from power, wait a full 30 seconds, then plug the modem in first and let it fully connect before powering the router. Most connection problems that aren't outages end here.
- Work out whether it's the WiFi or the line. If you can, plug a laptop directly into the router with an ethernet cable. Internet over the cable but not over WiFi means a WiFi problem, not an outage. Several devices failing at once points at the line.
- Confirm it's the home connection, not the wider internet. Switch your phone off WiFi and load a page over mobile data. If the same sites work on mobile data but nothing works at home, the problem is between your home and your provider.
- Ask a neighbor or check local groups. If a neighbor on the same provider is also down, it's almost certainly an area problem — report it and wait. If they're fine, the issue is more likely your equipment or your line specifically.
- Report it to the provider. Providers prioritize repairs partly by how many reports an area generates. Reporting through the app or support line also creates the paper trail you'll want for the next step.
- Ask for a credit if the outage ran long. Many providers will credit part of your bill for extended outages — policies differ and few advertise it, so you usually have to ask. Mention the dates and how long service was out.
Will it come back on its own?
Plenty of connection drops, including ones affecting Cox customers, last only a few minutes and resolve on their own once whatever caused them clears up. Fifteen to twenty minutes is a fair amount of time to wait before troubleshooting further. Once a couple of hours pass with no change, or the same interruption keeps happening at the same address on different days, it's reasonable to stop waiting — write down when it started and what you've already tried, then reach out to Cox support with those details.
Outages keep coming back?
The one thing this site can do that a status page can't: show you every other provider at your address. Check your address — or browse the cities where our data tracks Cox:

Frequently asked questions
- Is Cox down right now?
- That's not something we can confirm from this page — we don't monitor Cox's network, and Cox is the only source that can authoritatively say what's happening at your address today. Two fast checks: Cox's official outage page linked above, and connecting a device straight to the modem with an ethernet cable to see if WiFi is the actual problem.
- Is there a live Cox outage map?
- No — we've chosen not to build one, since a map assembled from unverified reports risks telling you the wrong thing with false confidence. Cox's official outage page, linked above, is designed to check your specific address. Third-party report-tracking sites can show when complaints spike in a region, which is useful context, but that's different from a confirmed outage.
- Will Cox tell me when service will be restored?
- Sometimes — official status pages occasionally show an estimated restoration window for a known problem in a given area, but that's not guaranteed for every outage or every address. If no estimate is showing, contacting Cox support directly is the most reliable way to ask, especially if the interruption has already run long enough that you're planning around it.
