Frontier Outage? How to Check and What to Do

CHECKLIST LAST REVIEWED AUG 26, 2026

We don't track live outage status. For Frontier's official word, go straight to Frontier's official support hub →

Frontier just went out on you, and the question that matters is whether it's just your address or a wider problem — that's something we can't answer from this page. We don't monitor Frontier's fiber or DSL network, and no outside source has visibility into it the way Frontier itself does. What follows is the direct link to Frontier's support hub, a short checklist that separates a router or wiring issue from something bigger, and a plain answer for how long is reasonable to wait before calling in. Start with the official link above, then run through the checklist below if it doesn't resolve things.

The seven-step outage checklist

  1. Check the provider's official status page first. Every provider runs its own official support and outage channel — the link at the top of this page goes to the right starting point for it. Sign in if it asks; most check your address or account for known problems in your area. For Frontier, that's Frontier's official support hub.
  2. Power-cycle the modem and router properly. Unplug both from power, wait a full 30 seconds, then plug the modem in first and let it fully connect before powering the router. Most connection problems that aren't outages end here.
  3. Work out whether it's the WiFi or the line. If you can, plug a laptop directly into the router with an ethernet cable. Internet over the cable but not over WiFi means a WiFi problem, not an outage. Several devices failing at once points at the line.
  4. Confirm it's the home connection, not the wider internet. Switch your phone off WiFi and load a page over mobile data. If the same sites work on mobile data but nothing works at home, the problem is between your home and your provider.
  5. Ask a neighbor or check local groups. If a neighbor on the same provider is also down, it's almost certainly an area problem — report it and wait. If they're fine, the issue is more likely your equipment or your line specifically.
  6. Report it to the provider. Providers prioritize repairs partly by how many reports an area generates. Reporting through the app or support line also creates the paper trail you'll want for the next step.
  7. Ask for a credit if the outage ran long. Many providers will credit part of your bill for extended outages — policies differ and few advertise it, so you usually have to ask. Mention the dates and how long service was out.

Will it come back on its own?

Short connection drops, including on Frontier's network, often pass within a couple of minutes on their own — the disruption clears and service comes back before you've even finished checking cables. A quarter-hour wait before touching the equipment is usually enough patience. Once service has stayed down for roughly two hours, though, or your address sees the same interruption recur across separate days, waiting stops being useful — jot down the timing and reach Frontier support so there's a record to work from.

Outages keep coming back?

Frequently asked questions

Is Frontier down right now?
We can't answer that from this page — we don't watch Frontier's network, and only Frontier can confirm what's happening at your address, whether you're on fiber or legacy DSL. Start with the support hub linked above, and try running a wire from your router straight to a laptop; a solid wired connection with shaky WiFi points at your router's wireless side, not an outage.
Is there a live Frontier outage map?
This site skips outage maps on purpose — a map stitched from anonymous, unverified reports can look precise while being flat wrong, and false precision is worse than admitting we don't know. For anything account-specific, Frontier's own support hub (linked above) is the better bet. Independent complaint-tracking sites can show a cluster of reports in your area, a useful hint, though it's not the same as Frontier confirming a fault on its network.
Does this page cover Frontier DSL as well as Frontier Fiber outages?
Yes. Frontier sells both fiber and older DSL lines depending on the address, and this page points to the same Frontier support hub for either one, since that's the channel Frontier publishes for account and connection issues generally. The equipment checklist below applies whether you're on fiber or DSL.
